Prof. (Dr) Chandrashekhar Bhuiyan

Prof. (Dr) Chandrashekhar Bhuiyan is a researcher in the field of Applied Geosciences. He
carried out a part of his doctoral research in Germany through DAAD “Sandwich-model PhD”
Fellowship. He has post-PhD research experience at several national and international
institutes including School of Environmental Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University and
School of Environmental Studies, University of Delhi. He visited University of Cologne,
Germany as Visiting Scientist in the year 2009 through DAAD ‘Reinitiation Fellowship’.
Prof. Bhuiyan has carried out extensive research in the field of hydrogeology, extreme
hydrology (drought), water resources, water scarcity, and natural hazards. He has authored
35 research articles in reputed international journals, conference proceedings, and book
chapters. He has worked as scientist/ researcher in several national and international
projects. Dr. Bhuiyan is affiliated to Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology (SMIT) since
2009 and at present serve the institute as the Associate Director – Research. He is also the
Professor and Head of the Department of Civil Engineering at SMIT.

University of Roorkee), and Ph.D. from Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur.
- More than 3 years (2006 to 2009) of Post-PhD Research Experience in Indian Institute of
Technology Kanpur, Jawaharlal Nehru University, University of Delhi, and University of
Cologne, Germany.
